The watch is mid-size measuring 28mm x 28mm with a 32mm lug-to-lug measurement. The case is 9ct rose gold and is a cushion shape. It has fixed lugs and a hinged case back which are both is good condition. The case back is also 9ct rose gold. It has one small dimpled dent and light surface scratching consistent with age. It has a personal engraving “J D Storey 21st birthday, congratulations from mother”.
The inside of the case back has peerlage finishing, as well as some service markings. It has English hallmarking for 9ct gold, from London assay office. The date letter “H” dates this to 1943/44.
The dial is a cream tone and is in average condition with some areas having a darker tone. There is a black minutes track around the exterior of the dial, with applied gold tone Arabic numerals for the hour markers. The sub-second dial is inset and has a circular textured finish.
The dial is signed “Shield” below 12 O’clock, with “Swiss Made” below 6 O’clock.
The hands are original and are sword style with a thermally blued finish. There are some slight areas of corrosion associated with age.
The watch is on a new 18mm genuine leather strap for fixed lugs. The strap is black, with a gold tone buckle.
The movement is a manual wind AS calibre from the early 1940s. It is marked 15 jewels, Swiss made. The ratchet wheel is signed “Shield Model V”.
The service history is unknown, but the movement is in good condition cosmetically and is keeping good time for its age. It has a daily gain of +100 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 228 degrees and a beat error of 1.4m/s.
