Here we have an early 1940s Fears Streamline watch, with the 31mm chrome plated case, with the stainless steel screwback. It is a classic 1940s watch, designed to be a trusty companion through daily life. The luminous hands and hour markers were designed for legibility.
This watch has good vintage sizing, measuring 31mm x 31mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 39mm. It is a gent’s model, but its suitable for either a gent’s or ladies wrist. The lug-to-lug length adds to the presence on the wrist.
It is a clean and classic design with a circular case and angular, tapered lugs. The bezel is of the notched style with the bevelled edge. The lugs have a flat top and flat sides which creates a robust look, adding presence on the wrist. The crown sits proudly to the right-hand side with the domed face. A well sized and functional crown, for ease of wind and setting.
The chrome plating has some wear to the edges of the lugs and light scratching associated with age and wear.
It has an exceptional dial, a variation which we have never seen before on a vintage watch! It is a beautiful salmon tone dial with the lightly brushed satin finish. There is the sector design with the outer track and centre being separated by a deep copper chapter ring. This is an unusual two-tone approach as it is, but the hour markers are the cherry on top. Alternating square luminous plots with luminous Roman numerals. This is a variation which combines form, with its beautiful design and function, with the luminous clarity.
The sub-second register is inset into the dial and has the fine-grained concentric circles, which add yet another layer of texture.
The pipette style hands, which are usually thermally blued, are a deep copper tone. The sub-second hand also has the matching copper tone. Another highly unusual touch.
This has our favourite variation of Fears signing with the ‘FEARS BRISTOL ENGLAND’ stacked logo. It also proudly boasts its features ‘Incabloc, Waterdust protected’.
The watch is presented on a vintage style genuine leather strap with the stainless-steel buckle.
The movement is a good quality Seeland Watch co calibre. It is a manual wind movement with a jewel count of 17. It has the added benefit of shock proofing, which was not widely adopted at the time. It is working perfectly after its Fears Heritage service and is guaranteed for a year giving you peace of mind. It has a daily variation of 40 seconds.
This beautiful example will come nestled in an official Fears box, in “Fears Bristol Blue” with cream interior. Upon opening, you will be greeted by a Fears owner club card, with a Fears cleaning cloth. Accompanying this will be an extract from the Fears archive, detailing the specifics of this example, hand signed.
The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
