Here we have a fun little oddity from 1933. Long after the petite fob watch was popular during the late Victorian and early Edwardian period, we have a 34mm silver fob watch, with London assay office hallmarking and further Dublin import marks. It has the clear white enamel dial with the Breguet numerals. It has the inset sub-seconds track with the same classic railroad track. The hands are of classic spade and whip style with the thermally blued tone. To the top is the pendant with the onion crown and the hallmarked loop. The case back has the eye-catching engine turned finish. Inside it is signed with the hallmarking from both London and Dublin assay office. The movement is a good quality 15 jewel Swiss lever calibre, which has been recently serviced.
This is a neat little companion which comes on the articulated metal chain with T bar to the end.
It is a classic open face design with the double hinged case back. It measures 34mm by 34mm with a total length including loop of 46.7mm. It has a slim case depth of 10mm. The bezel snaps on and has the polished finish. It holds the acrylic lens which has the bevelled edge. The pendant sits to the top, capped with the onion style crown. The loop is good and strong with the London assay office hallmarking.
The dial is clean and classic with the bright white enamel. It has the clear railroad track to the exterior and the clear Breguet numerals. The sub-second dial is inset and has the matching railroad track, with 5 second elongated dashes and Arabic markers every 10 seconds. The sub-second hand is thermally blued and is of the thin design with neat lollipop counterbalance. The hour and minute hand are of spade and whip style and have the bright thermally blued tone, which catches the light.
The rear of the case has the engine turned guilloche finish which creates a mesmerising concentric wave. It has the polished centre which is free of engraving. The outer hinged back has the London assay office hallmarking for Silver, dating to 1933. It also has the import hallmarking from Dublin assay office. It has the ‘GS’ makers mark for the notorious Clerkenwell importer, George Stockwell. The inner back has the polished exterior finish, with the perlage to the inside and further matching hallmarking.
The movement is a 15 jewel manual wind, Swiss lever calibre, which has the eye-catching striped finishing to the bridges. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time to within 40 seconds variation per day.
