Here we have a lovely example of a circa 1932 Gents Art Deco Silver cased Jump hour watch. It has a Fontainemelon manual wind movement, which displays the hours, minutes and seconds. These are presented on discs which show through the apertures cut into the front of the case. The white painted discs are original and untouched, with the black Arabic numerals and tracks. The aperatures are framed with the square front, with the bevelled sides. The sides of the case run smoothly into the lugs. The sides of the case have the scrolled, engraved boarder which catches the eye. To the right is the neat coin edge crown. The case back is free of personal engravings.

The case is Imported Swiss 0.935 Silver, manufactured by GMBM Geneve. It has the UK makers mark ‘A&M’. It has the import mark for Glasgow assay office and the date letter ‘J’ dating it to 1932. Inside is the 15 jewel Fabrique d’Horlogerie Fontainemelon (FEF) movement calibre. Fontainemelon went on to patent their Jump hour movement, with the patent CH 164893 registered in October 1933.

The movement has been recently serviced and is keeping time to within 60 seconds variation a day.

A beautiful Art Deco jump hour, in a precious metal case as opposed to the less costly nickel chrome designs. Every collection needs a vintage jump hour!

The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference
