A goliath, huge, massive, titan of a rectangular tank watch dating to 1931. The silver case measures 31mm wide by 42.25mm long, with a total lug-to-lug length of 49.5mm. This is the biggest rectangular watch from the Art Deco period that we have ever seen. The dial is formed of silver and has the railroad minute track to the exterior. It has the roman numeral hour markers and thermally blued plume hands. To the right is the neat crown with the sunburst design. The case back has the rubbed hallmarking from London assay office, which dates it to 1931. It is hinged and opens to reveal the dial and movement. The movement is a 15 jewel Swiss lever calibre by AS, which has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time for the age. Most impressively the watch comes on its original sewn leather strap, with matching silver hallmarked buckle. It will fit just over a 17.8cm wrist diameter.

They don’t come bigger and more impactful than this. The ultimate statement watch from the Art Deco period. We love the presence the case has, as well as the original sewn strap with silver hallmarked buckle.

The dial is formed of silver and has the rectangular railroad minute track to the exterior. This has the exaggerated lay out which pulls it to the edges of the dial. The roman numerals follow the same exaggerated flow, pulling towards the corners. The hands are of the plume style in the thermally blued tone, which has oxidised to a purple with age.

The case is well sized, measuring 31mm wide by 42.25mm in length. The total lug-to-lug measurement is 49.5mm which makes this the largest of this case style we have seen. The lug width of 24mm allows a robust width of strap, which compliments the size of the case. Despite the large measurements, it is a comfortable watch due to the slightly curved design and slim depth of 10mm.

The case is formed of two pieces with the front and the hinged back which secures in place tightly. The front curves downwards to meet the curved sides and top and bottom of the case. The wire lugs are present to either end and are well formed, with signs of historic repairs. To the right-hand side is the neat original crown with the pin set below. To the rear is the British hallmarking from London assay office for silver. It has partially rubbed, but it appears to have the date letter ‘O’ from 1931. It has the JW & Co makers mark for Joseph Walton & Co, Upper Charles Street, Clerkenwell, London.

The watch is presented on the original hand sewn leather strap. It has the original silver buckle which has the matching hallmarking from London assay office with the letter ‘q’. It has the makers mark ‘P&Ss’ for E J Pearson & Sons Ltd. The strap will fit up to a 17.8cm wrist diameter. It is possible to lengthen it by unpicking the stitching and re-doing it.

The movement is a 15 jewel Swiss lever calibre by AS. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time to within 60 seconds variation per day, with an amplitude of 280 degrees.

Dial:
The dial is in aged but legible condition. It has scratching associated with age. The dial has a speckled ageing. The signing has faded in areas.

Hands:
The hands appear original and are in strong condition with the purple tone thermally blued finish.

Glass:
The curved acrylic lens is a replacement which is in strong condition with some light marks.

Crown:
The crown is original and is in good condition, functioning as it should. The pin set below functions well to allow the crown to set the hands.

Case:
The case is formed of silver and is in decent vintage condition. It has scratching and small denting associated with age. There is a noticeable dent to the centre of the case on the left hand side. The wire lugs are strong, with signs of historic solder repairs to the attachment.

Caseback:
The back closes tightly, there is scratching to the rear, and the hallmarking has rubbed with age. It is still just legible.

Strap:
The watch is presented on the original hand sewn leather strap. It has the original silver buckle which has the matching hallmarking from London assay office with the letter ‘q’. The strap will fit up to a 17.8cm wrist diameter.

Movement:
