1931 Art Deco 18ct Dennison cased blue enamel bezel watch, 15 jewel swiss movement

 

A rare and quality Art Deco watch, with a solid 18ct gold Dennison case. It has an exceptional and rare Arabic numeral, blue enamel bezel. This is a unique and uncommon piece which has been recently serviced.

 

The dial was original unbranded and was in poor condition. The dial is a faithful restoration of the original and has been carried out to the highest standard. It has a lovely silver satin base tone which shines in the light. It has a simple railroad track around the exterior of the dial for the minutes, with a sub-second dial above 6 O’clock. The sub-second dial has 10 second graduations signed in Arabic. The dial is signed Swiss made below 6 O’clock.

 

The case is well proportioned measuring 31mm x 31mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 37mm. The bezel is 18ct yellow gold and is in very good condition for the age. The blue enamel finish is what makes this watch so special. The Arabic numerals are well formed and in a lovely font with cut off 8. The central piece of the case is well designed tapering from a thicker central plane, to thinner lugs, with the case falling away from the thick bezel to the lugs and flat surfaces at the end of the case, inbetween the lugs. There is light surface scratching on the sides of the case.

 

The case back is formed of 18ct gold and is in good condition, with only light surface scratching. The inside is signed Dennison, British made. It has English hallmarking for 18ct gold, assayed at Birmingham assay office. It has the date letter G which dates to 1931/32.

 

The hands are original. They are thermally blued Breguet style hands. They are in good condition with no bending and minimal corrosion. The thermally blued finish is a bright blue in the light.

 

The crystal is a replacement which fits the profile of the watch well.

 

The crown appears to be original and is a great size and shape. It has a lovely coin edge finish.  

 

The strap is a Bonklip style strap which is gold plated. The gold plate has worn though.

 

The movement is an unsigned 15 jewel, Swiss made calibre which has been recently serviced and is keeping exceptional time. It has a daily gain of +3 seconds, with an amplitude of 295 degrees and a beat error of 0.4 m/s.

Dial:

It has a lovely silver satin base tone which shines in the light. It has a simple railroad track around the exterior of the dial for the minutes, with a sub-second dial above 6 O’clock. The sub-second dial has 10 second graduations signed in Arabic. The dial is signed Swiss made below 6 O’clock.

 

Hands:

The hands are original. They are thermally blued Breguet style hands. They are in good condition with no bending and minimal corrosion. The thermally blued finish is a bright blue in the light.

 

Glass:

The crystal is a replacement which fits the profile of the watch well.

 

Crown:

The crown appears to be original and is a great size and shape. It has a lovely coin edge finish.

The Arabic numerals are well formed and in a lovely font with cut off 8. The sides of the bezel are polished are are in good condition with light surface scratching. There is one slight nick between 8 and 9 O’clock.

 

The central piece of the case is well designed tapering from a thicker central plane, to thinner lugs, with the case falling away from the thick bezel to the lugs and flat surfaces at the end of the case, inbetween the lugs. There is light surface scratching on the sides of the case.

 

Caseback:
