Here we have a beautiful 1934 gents Art Deco Omega silver cased tonneau shaped wrist watch. It was made for the German market, with its Crescent and crown hallmarking. The case is well proportioned, measuring 25.5mm x 31.5m with a total lug-to-lug length of 39.2mm. It is the classic tonneau/barrel shape with the curved sides. The dial is a silver tone with the barrel shaped railroad minute track. It has standout italic stylised Arabic numerals with the original Radium luminous. It has the sub-seconds register at 6 o’clock. The handset is of cathedral style with the thermally blued tone and aged radium luminous. The inside of the case is marked with the Omega name, with Swiss and German hallmarking for 925 silver. The movement is the manually wound Omega 26.5 SOB T2 which has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time.

The dial is a real treat mixing form and function with neat design touches and legibility. It is a satin silver base tone and is the barrel shape, following the flow of the case. The railroad minute track to the exterior also follows the flow of the case shape, curved to either side. The Arabic numerals are bold and playful. They are very clear and impactful with the large size and aged radium luminous in-fill. The font is eye-catching with the italic stylised design and open ended 9. The radium is all original and is complete with the rich pumpkin tone and puffy texture. The ‘Omega’ name sits below 12 o’clock in the Art Deco font, with the Omega logo above. The sub-second register is at 6 o’clock, cutting off the 6. It is the same barrel shape with the curved sides and the railroad layout. This creates a lovely symmetry across the four barrel sections. The hands are of a classic cathedral style with the thermally blued finish. The radium luminous is the same deep pumpkin tone as the hour markers.

The case is a good size for a vintage gents watch. As mentioned it has the 25.5mm case width with the 31.5mm length. The total lug-to-lug length stretches to 39.2mm which adds to the presence on the wrist. The tonneau shape is one of the most enjoyable Art Deco designs. It has a beautiful flow and curvature on the wrist. The sides sprawl outwards and curve elegantly. The lugs are thin and elegant as not to distract from the cases flow. They are silver fixed bars with the sewn on strap. To the right is the neat coin edge crown.

The case is a two piece design with the snap on case back. The two pieces sit together tightly. The rear of the case is subtly curved which allows it to sit comfortably on the wrist. Inside it is signed with the Omega name and Swiss hallmarking for sterling silver. It also has the German crescent and crown (Halbmond und Reichskrone). This indicates it was made and imported into the German market. The case serial number is 8,056,584 which is three years later than the movement. This is a common lag as movements would be created and sit in stock, until the demand was there. They would then be paired with a case.

The movement is an Art Deco period favourite of ours, the calibre 26.5 SOB T2. It has a lovely bridge layout which differs only slightly from that of the very earliest Omega calibres in the 1900s. It has the striped finishing across the bridges with the brushed finish to the crown wheel and barrel arbor. It has the eyecatching Art Deco font of Omega signing. It is manually wound with 15 jewels and is a good quality movement. It has been recently serviced and is keeping time to within +20 seconds per day, with an amplitude of 285 degrees and a beat error of 0.7 m/s.

The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference. Full condition report below. Please see the images as these compliment and aid the description provided below.
