For sale we have a very pleasing 1930s 9ct rose gold cushion case watch. The silver double sector dial is signed ‘Dominant’ and is well executed with silver foil divisions and Arabic numerals in an interesting font. The case is originally gents but is now more suited as a mid-size wear with a 28.5mm diameter. The rose gold tone of the case is beautiful and eye-catching. To the right of the case is the original onion shaped, rose gold tone crown. The wire lugs are thin and elegant, matching the neat profile of the watch. Inside the case is hallmarked 9ct gold by London assay office. The date letter has rubbed due to movement moving within the case. The case has the makers mark ‘LA’ which is for City Watch Case Co LTD (Louis Arnould). A 3D printed plastic spacer was installed to stop the movement rattling in the case. Inside is the manual wind AS cal 984 which is keeping good time and has beautiful, stripped finishing.
This is a lovely mid-size dress watch with a host of eye-catching, but subtle design touches. The rose gold case, onion style crown and well executed sector dial make this a joy to wear. It is a very classy cushion case watch that would be an excellent addition to a collection.

Dial:
The dial is original and is in good condition with a light speckled patination and some small scratches.
Hands:
The hands are original and are of Dagger style. They are thermally blued with an even tone and no signs of corrosion or bending.
Glass:
The acrylic crystal is a modern replacement and is in very good condition.
Crown:
The crown is original, in a gold tone. It functions well.
Case:
The 9ct gold case is formed of 2 pieces, with one piece having wire lugs and solid case back, with a snap on bezel. The bezel snaps on tightly. The inside of the case has worn with age so a small plastic spacer has been fitted to hold the movement steady. This has also meant the hallmarking is rubbed, so the exact year is hard to tell.
There is no denting to the case and only light surface scratching. To the rear there is no engraving and only a very small, dimpled dent.
Strap:
The watch comes on a new genuine leather strap with metal tabs for fixed lugs.
Movement:
The movement is an AS cal 984, with a higher level of finishing than standard, with Geneve stripe finishing and bevelled edges to the bridges.
The service history is unknown, but the watch is functioning well. It’s keeping time to +35 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 275 degrees and a beat error of 3.9m/s.
