Here we a fascinating 1930s Boucheron watch, retailed by the London Boutique. It is a slim cocktail style watch, of organic design. The case measures 10mm wide by 40.25mm in length. It has the stainless-steel main body, with the wooden attachments to the top and bottom of the case. Looping through this is the original cord strap, which is coated in the original leather and has the wooden bead tensioners. The clasp is formed of wood and is a beautiful design, with the cord hooking around it.

The dial has the mirror polished silver base with the crenelated rectangle in the gold tone, with the hour cut outs. It is signed ‘Boucheron London’ with the ‘France’ stamp. The hands are thermally blued.

The case back is signed with the serial number and the engraved initials ‘S.C.S’. Inside it has the Encausse & Krasker signing. The movement is a 15 jewel Swiss lever calibre, which has been recently serviced. It is also signed with the Encausse & Krasker name.

The watch was manufactured by the prestigious Place Vendome workshop, Encausse & Krasker, who also worked for Van Cleef & Arepls, Marzo and Boivin amongst others. A piece with the same dial design was made by them for Lacloche, Paris.

The dial makes use of texture and a mix of finishes. The base section is a silver tone with the mirror polished finish. Applied to the centre is the crenelated rectangle, which provides a raised section, with the cut outs for the hour markers. There is a linear brushed finish to the gold centre which catches the eye. The dial is signed ‘Boucheron London’ below 12, with the ‘France’ signing above 6 o’clock. The hands are small and simple with the bright thermally blued tone.

The case measures 10.1mm wide, with the steel section measuring 24.7mm long. The total length of the case, including the wooden ends is 40.25mm. It is a neat watch, which still provides presence on the wrist due to the lug design and the way this integrates with the strap.

The central section of the case is formed of stainless steel and is the rectangular shape. It has the double stepped design with the thin strip to either side of the dial, which angles downwards at the edge. This drops into the second step which is shorter, but chunkier. The sides of the case are flat with the brushed finish. To the right is the thin coin edge crown which is original. The wooden lugs are a triangular wedge shape, which has the bevelled edges and tapers as it angles down towards the wrist. These have the circular holes for the strap, which loops through. The black cord is original, which is coated in the original dark brown leather wrap. It has the tensioner beads which are also formed of wood. The clasp is formed of wood with the hook which the cord affixes around. The strap will fit up to a 6.5” wrist diameter.

The case back has the polished bevelled edge, with the brushed finish to the face. It is signed with the serial 8146, with the ‘Made in France’ signing and the ‘Depose’ stamp. It has the personal engraving of the initials ‘S.C.S’ to the centre. Inside it is further signed with the ‘Encausse & Krasker’ name with ‘Stainless Steel’.

The movement is the rectangular shape with the cut corners. It is signed ‘France’ with the Encausse & Krasker name. It is a 15 jewel calibre which is manually wound. It has been recently serviced and is keeping time to within 1 minute per day.

The watch is modelled on a 6.5” wrist circumference.
