For sale we have a neat and well designed 1930s Bauhaus numeral tonneau shaped tank watch. It is an unbranded Swiss Made watch, with patented, early shock absorbing mechanism. It has a chrome front to the case, with a stainless-steel back. It has a 15 jewel Swiss lever movement, which is tonneau shaped. It has chatons around the jewels and has an early form of shock proofing.
The dial is simple and well executed, with tonneau shaped rail track minute markers, with a matching tonneau shaped sub second register at 6 O’clock. It has beautiful Bauhaus stylised numerals which is simplistic, but eye-catching. They exaggerate to fit the dial. It is signed shock absorbing, Swiss Made, to the dial.
The case has a chrome plated front and Stainless-Steel front. It measures 22mm x 29.5mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 37mm. It is on the smaller side, which means it is suitable for a gents, or a ladies wrist. It has a polished finish to the front of the case, with a bevelled bezel and a flat finish to the lugs. The sides are straight and have a brushed matte finish which contrasts well with the shine of the bezel. It is a very clean case, in-fitting with the Bauhaus design. To the right is the chrome plated crown, which is original and functions well.
The case back is Stainless Steel, signed with the reference 2981 and the serial number 4000851. It has a well-executed brushed finish which matches the sides.
Inside is the Tonneau shaped Swiss lever movement, with early patented shock-protection. It has chatons to the jewel surround, with bevelled edges to the bridge plates. It is in good condition, keeping time to within 40 seconds a day.
This is the kind of watch which is affordable, with enjoyable design, that reminds you of why you started collecting.

Dial:
The dial is in good condition for the age and is original. It has some slight marking to the surface and a mark above the shock absorber signing.
Hands:
The hands are original and are thermally blued. They shine in the light as they should. They are in good condition with no bending or corrosion.
Glass:
The acrylic crystal is original and is in good condition with only slight marking.
Crown:
The crown is original, with some pitting to the chrome plate.
Case:
The case is chrome plated and is in good condition with light surface scratching. It has a brushed finish with a good shine to the front. It has no visible wear to the plating.
Caseback:
The snap on case back is formed of stainless steel and is in very good condition. It has the original brushed finish with clear reference and serial number. It has some light surface scratching.
Strap:
The watch comes on new black genuine leather strap.
Movement:
The movement is a 15-jewel manual wind Swiss lever calibre, with a frequency of 18,000 BPH. It has early shock proofing. It has an unusual, curved regulating arm.
The service history is unknown but the movement is in good condition functionally and cosmetically. It keeps time to within +40 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 235 and a beat error of 5.7m/s.
