For sale we have a petite and exceptionally attractive Art Deco desk or mantel clock by A L Davenport LTD. It measures 12.5cm in length, by 8.25cm high. It is Sterling silver, with British hallmarking for Birmingham assay office dating to 1929/1930. The makers mark is for A L Davenport LTD, a silversmith established by James Davenport in 1927. It has exceptional pink Guilloche enamel to the front, which oozes class and encapsulates the Art Deco period.

Guilloche enamel is achieved by working metal on an engine turned lathe to form a pattern, before enamelling over the pattern. The result is something that is extremely beautiful and very collectable.

The silver base and framing of the top section is expertly executed and pairs nicely with the enamel work. The bezel has more Art Deco design with a Greek pattern surrounding the dial.

The dial has an aged silver tone dial. It has gold tone raised Arabic numerals, with raised dot minute markers. It is signed 8 days and Swiss Made. It is a very neat and well-balanced dial.

The handset is complex and beautifully designed, another eye-catching element of the clocks coherent design.

The movement is an 8-day calibre with 6 jewels and is marked as having been adjusted to two positions. It has been serviced recently. It keeps time to within 5 minutes over 8 days. It is dependable and benefits from the 8 day movement but isn’t the most spectacular movement.
