Here we have a lovely example of a classic 1926 Omega trench style watch. It has the bright white enamel dial with the railroad track, italic Arabic numerals and sub-second register. The hands are of the bright thermally blued finish in the spade and whip style. The silver case measures 31.5mm and has the polished bezel, fixed wire lugs and the hinged case back. To the right is the original Dennison crown design. The inside of the case has the Silver hallmarking from Birmingham assay office. The movement is the manual wind Omega calibre 27.9 SBN. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time.

The enamel dial is the bright white tone and is free of any cracks or chips. It has the classic black railroad track to the exterior with the thicker black batons for the 5-minute graduations, with diamond marks on the quarters. The hour markers are of Arabic style with the italic font. Below 12 is the art deco ‘Omega’ font from the period, with the Omega symbol above. Below the text is a faded retailer signing, which we have not been able to make out. At 6 o’clock is the inset sub-second dial which has the railroad track. The sub-second hand is thermally blued with the lollipop counterbalance. The hour and minute hands are also thermally blued and are of spade and whip style.

The case measures 31.5mm x 31.5mm which makes this a classic sizing of watch from the period. The Dennison crown adds to the width, taking the total width to 35mm. The wire lugs extend from the case and taking the total length to 35mm. With a depth of 10.5mm, this is a neat watch sitting nicely on the wrist. The fixed bar lugs have a 19mm width which allows a well sized strap.

The case is formed of sterling silver. It is a classic design from the period with the snap-on bezel and hinged case back. The wire lugs are attached to the centre section of the case. The bezel has the curving form with the polished finish. To the right-hand side is the stem which juts out with the original Dennison onion style crown capping the end. Above the crown is the hallmark for sterling silver. The case back has the polished finish and seals tightly, with a good hinge. The inside is signed with the Dennison name and British hallmarking from Birmingham assay office. It has the letter ‘B’ which dates the watch to 1926.

The movement is the Omega calibre 27.9 SBN, which is a 15-jewel manual wind movement. It has the beautiful perlage finishing to the bridges, which catches the eye. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time to within -60 seconds per day variation, with an amplitude of 340 degrees and a beat error of 0.2m/s.

At 100 years old, this is a clean and classic watch. It represents a timeless design that has stood the test of time, and looks as good today and the day it was made!

We love early watches from brands such as Omega due to the clarity of the enamel dials, compact cases and quality manual wind movement. The stylish numerals and Art deco inspired font of the brand signing, also make this standout.

The watch came on the vintage leather strap which has a beautiful tone and has aged to perfection.

The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
