1924 South Bend pocket watch with original box, cal 227 great condition serviced. Railroad Grade.

 

This beautiful example comes serviced, with it's original fitted box from 1924. This is a near perfect example that is very well preserved.

 

Recently serviced, It is keeping time to within +2 seconds a day with a strong amplitude of 283 degrees and a low beat error of 0.2 m/s. This watch still shows that it has the quality and lack of use to keep time to the exacting railroad standards it was originally created for.

 

The movement serial number is: 1089801. The movement grade is 227, with an estimated production of 1924. A total of 45,000 of these movements were produced. It is a size 16s. It has a jewel count of 21j, made of Ruby & Sapphire. It has a double roller which protects the train from damage is the mainspring is to break. The regulator is Micrometric. It is adjusted to temperature, isochronism and 5 positions, meaning that it was up to railroad grade in the era.

 

The South Bend 227 was one of the highest grade movements produced by the company. It's quality and finishing is much the same as the Illinois Bunn Special pocket watch, a true Railroad timekeeping legend. This has the prefered 227 in a circle on the movement. The jewels on the bridges are all set in gold chatons, which is the hallmark of high quality American railroad finishing.

 

This is example is certainly collector grade and has had minimal use it it's 96 years of existence. The dial has no hairline fractures, no marking and no loss of the finish. The print is still incredibly clean. This is ideal for a collector.

 

The time is set by unscrewing the front of the case and pulling out a lever at 4 oclock.

Dial:

An incredibly well preserved dial in near perfect condition. Some spotting of wear on the numerals, but this is very minimal. No hairlines, no fractures and no chips of the dial. Hands: The hands are original and have no signs of wear or corrosion. Beautiful, thermally blued.

 

Glass:

The glass is in near perfect condition and is original.

 

Crown:

It is original. It only winds the watch. The time is set by unscrewing the front of the case and pulling out a lever at 4 oclock.

 

Case:

The case is in near perfect condition with only very light surface scratching. No deep scratching or dents.

 

Caseback:

The case back is in near perfect condition with only very light surface scratching. No deep scratching or dents.
