This is a beautiful and rare watch from the late 1920s. It is a well-designed watch with its Hermetic silver case, with a coin edge bezel. It has a well-proportioned case, measuring 33.5mm x 33.5mm. The dial is simplistic but elegant with its Roman Numerals, simple railroad track and in-set sub-second dial. The hands are original and are thermally blued with an excellent tone in the light. Inside is the hinged inner case, with the Omega calibre 40.6LT1 inside, having been recently serviced.
Best of all? It has it’s ultra-rare original box. From the late 1920s this box is coffin shaped, whilst the inside is lined with a cream padding, which has beautifully stylised Omega signing inside.
The Main body of the case is solid, with wire lugs, with an inner case once the coin edge front is removed. The front section has a beautiful coin edge finish which is in very good condition. The thread is also in very good condition with it screwing down as it should. The lugs are also in great condition and aren’t bent.
The rear of the case is solid, with the inner case being exposed by un-screwing the front.
The rear is in good condition with only light surface scratches and some tarnishing, as expected with age. It is not dented.
The inside of the case back is in good condition. It is signed “Dennison Watch Case Co” and has UK hallmarking for silver, from Birmingham assay office in 1929/30.
The main section of the case has an inner case hinged to it. It has a coin edge nickel back which is in good condition. These is then removed to expose the movement.
The dial is enamel and is in very good condition.
It is a classic enamel dial with very neat Roman Numerals. It has an inset sub-second dial at 6 O’clock and is signed Swiss Made below this. Below 12 O’clock the dial is signed Omega with the Omega logo above. The railroad track around the exterior of the dial is clear and simple. It has a thicker line for each hour, whilst 9,12,3 and 6 have a diamond marker.
There is one slight hairline fracture from 5 O’clock to the sub-second dial.
The hands are original and are in excellent condition. The hour hand is of “spade” style, whilst the minute hand is of “Whip” style. They are both thermally blued and are in excellent condition with no bending and very minimal variation in tone.
The sub second hand is also original and thermally blued, in excellent condition.
The crystal is a replacement which is in very good condition. The original glass very heavily scratched.
The crown is non original due to the colour difference, but its of the type used on early hermetic cases and functions as it should.
The movement is an Omega calibre 40.6LT1 from 1929. It has 15 jewels and is adjusted to two positions. This movement is slightly better than the standard grade as the jewels are set in chatons. It has a frequency of 18,000 BPH and has a power reserve of 30 hours.
The movement is in good condition cosmetically and functionally, having been recently serviced.
