Here we have an antique circa 1920s Fears Ltd Bristol England, base metal cased pocket watch. It is an open face pocket watch measuring just under 50mm wide. It has the classic double hinged case back. To the top is the stem, onion style crown and loop. The dial is a classic bright white enamel with the railroad track around the exterior and the bold Roman numerals. It is signed below 12 ‘Fears Ltd, Bristol, Eng’. At 6 o’clock is the sub-second register with the railroad track. The hands are of the classic spade and whip style in the thermally blued tone. The movement is top wind and set. It has been recently serviced and is keeping reliable time. A base metal albert style chain will be included so that the pocket watch is ready to wear and enjoy.

Enamel dials are a real joy when in good condition such as this. The bright white tone is clean and provides the perfect contrast for the black signing. It has a clear railroad track around the exterior with the bold Roman numerals which catch the eye. Below 12 proudly sits the ‘Fears Ltd’ signing with the ‘Bristol, Eng’ text. At 6 o’clock is the sub-second dial which has the clear railroad track. The hands are of the classic spade and whip style and shine brightly with the thermally blued tone.

In 1908 Fears became incorporated as a limited company, changing its name from ‘Edwin Fear’ to ‘Fears Limited’. In the early 1930s the business was simply known by as ‘Fears’

The Italic text used during the limited years on pocket watches is a real joy to look at. A beautifully flowing and expressive script.

The case is the classic open face with the double hinged case back. It measures 51mm wide, making it a size 25s. The bezel is hinged and lifts open by prising from the 1-2 o’clock position if necessary. To the top of the case is the pendant with the crown and bow. The crown is the beautiful onion style.

The case back has the polished finish. Inside it is unsigned and has the polished finish. There is the inner hinged back which further protects the movement.

The movement is a 7 jewel Swiss lever movement. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time.

The pocket watch comes with a base metal albert chain to ensure its ready for wear.

Dial:
The dial is original and is in very good condition with no wear to the signing. It also has no chips or cracking to the enamel.

Hands:
The hands are in very good original condition with the bright thermally blued tone.

Glass:
The glass is original and is in good condition with only light marking.

Crown:
The onion style crown is original and is in good condition, functioning well.

Loop:
The stem and loop are original and are in good condition. The loop shows slight signs of wear from a chain.

Case:
It is a base metal case of open-face design. It is in good antique condition, with light surface scratching. It has some light nicks associated with age. It is a good tone, with light tarnishing.

Caseback:
The hinged case back is in strong condition. It doesn’t close tightly to one side but is secure. This happens when it has dented near the hinge in its life. The inner back seals tightly.

Movement:
The movement is a 7 jewel swiss lever calibre. It is stem wound and set.
It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time.
