1920s Art Deco 9ct gold Rolex tonneau with exaggerated dial, beautiful and rare watch.
A very attractive and well sized Rolex tonneau watch from the Art Deco period, Measuring 25mm x 30mm with a 36mm lug to lug length.
The case back is marked "33, 10133". The inside is marked "Rolex 7 World Records, Gold Medal, Geneva - Suisse". The back also has the Swiss marking for 9ct gold, along side the English hallmarks for 9ct gold, from London assay office, dating to 1924/1925. The W&D makers mark is also seen within the case. The finish of the inside of the case back has spotting, a common finish in Haute Horlogerie.
The movement is of a good grade for the era. It has 15 jewels and is marked "Adjusted for all climates", "Timed 6 Positions". The ratchet wheel is marked "Rolex Extra Prima". The crown wheel has two screws on it, indicating higher quality. It is keeping time to within +45 seconds a day.
The dial has been beautifully restored, using the original dial as a base. This is extremely faithful to a similar reference of tonneau Rolex from the 1920s as seen in my private stock of Rolex catalogue pages in the images. These watches shared the same case and the proportions of dial.
Please ask any questions you may have on the watch and I will do my best to help. Please see the images as these compliment and aid the description provided below.
