Here we have a lovely example of a 1918 Zenith silver cased Chronograph pocket watch. This is an early chronograph calibre from Zenith, which is of excellent quality. The classic white enamel dial has the 60 minute/seconds track with 1/5th seconds graduation. It has the black Roman Numeral hour markers, with the inset 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock. The sub-second dial is inset at 6 o’clock, with the railroad track and 10 second Arabic graduations. It is a sterile dial, lacking the Zenith signing. This is indicative of the early pieces sold in the British market. The hands are of spade & whip style, in the thermally blued tone. The central second has the moon counterbalance which catches the eye. The two sub-dial hands are also original.

The case is of open face configuration, with the double hinged back. The crown and loop and good and original, with the Chronograph operated by depressing the button on the crown.

The case back has the polished finish. Inside it has hallmarking for sterling silver from Glasgow assay office dating to 1918, with the date letter ‘u’. It is also marked with the ‘ZWC’ makers mark. The case is marked with the serial number ‘3062142’. Both the outer and inner case back seal tightly with a good hinge.

The movement is a beautiful, early Chronograph calibre from Zenith, dating to 1918 (serial number 2236884). It has the gilt finish which is in good cosmetic condition. The movement service history is unknown. The chronograph is functioning well and is it keeping very good time within 10 seconds variation a day. It has a high amplitude of 345 degrees.

It comes on a circa 1900 Curb link Sterling silver albert chain, with the individually marked links. It has the T-bar with the bloodstone/ fob spinner.
