A beautiful JW Benson - London, sterling silver pocket watch, in original box, from 1912. Powered by a swiss made, 15 jewel, gilt finished movement.
Overall condition is fantastic for a 117 year old pocket watch. Just look at the pictures!
This pocket watch doesn't really require my usual description, it speaks for itself in terms of its appearance and crisp condition. You'll struggle to find such a good example that hasn't been restored.
Condition:
The dial is perfect. It is enamel and has no cracking, no chips and no hairline fractures. Only the best examples, that have avoided any drops or poor treatment, make it this far without gaining any damage to the dial.
The glass is unscratched and completely clear, with a lovely bevelled edge.
The case has no dents and no deep scratches, only surface scratching which is consistent with aging, but much better than the average case condition for such an old piece. The only slight blemishes are the slightly shewed lips where the front of the case has been opened, and the back of the case, using a knife. This is common with this occuring multiple times over the years.
The inside of both case backs are perfect with no clear scratching or dents.
The movement is very clean and healthy.
Diamensions:
Case diameter: 49.5mm x 49.5mm
Case depth: 15.5mm
Dial diameter: 45mm x 45mm
Height including crown: 62.5mm
Time keeping:
Time keeping is accurate to within 60 seconds a day. It has not been serviced in my ownership due to its consistently strong timekeeping.
