French Antique 8 day Miniature/petite French Porcelain Beveled Glass Panel Carriage Clock Timepiece by Drocourt of Paris. From approximately 1870-1880.
This is a lovely antique 8 day French Carriage Clock timepiece by the renowned Drocourt of Paris and Saint Nicolas d'Aliermont. Drocourt was regarded as a maker of very fine carriage clocks and one of the leading Parisian clockmakers of the period, and won a Gold Medal at the 1889 Paris Exhibition.
'Pierre Drocourt, born 1819, founded the Drocourt clock making business in Paris in 1853 with his son Alfred, born 1847, taking over in 1872. The blanc roulants to the clocks were made at their workshops in Saint Nicolas d'Aliermont, a town outside of Dieppe, before being finished at the workshops in Paris at Rue Debelleyme 28, previously Rue Limoges 8'.
It has a pretty brass case with bevelled glass to all four sides and the top. The top has a lovely shaped handle. The dial is set out with very fine Roman numerals.
The clock is wound and the hands adjusted from the rear. The clock is complete with a double ended winding key. Access to the movement is via the door to the rear.
The clock was in good working order. HOWEVER, during my ownership it has started to stop at times so a service is needed to keep it going well. It runs well when it isn't stopping. The lever escapement seems to stick at times.
The movement is stamped with the letters 'D' and 'C' with a carriage clock between them inside an oval which is the trademark for Drocourt of Paris and Saint Nicolas d'Aliermont in photo 11. it is also stamped with inside of the movement, visible behind the barrel in photo 10 and the serial number '13199' visible in photo 9.
The 'HANDS' indicator and 'Slow, Fast' regulation are engraved in English meaning the clock was made for export across the Channel.
The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are:
- 11.4 cm high with handle down
- 7.7 cm across the front of the clock at the widest point
- 6.7 cm deep at the deepest point
The clock is in lovely condition. The brass case is in solid condition, however it does have some tarnishing as seen in the photographs. The clock is complete with a double ended winding key.
This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase a superb carriage clock, by a highly renowned maker. Thanks,
