Here we have a wonderful example of a 1920s Türler enamel dial Swiss silver cased, crown monopusher chronograph. It has the well-proportioned 34mm silver case with the snap-on bezel, hinged case back and fixed wire lugs. To the right-hand side is the original onion style crown with the chronograph pusher set within it. The dial is the bright white enamel with radial Breguet numerals and standout red 12 with the Turler name below. It has the two sub-dials with the constant seconds and 30-minute counter. The hands are of Leaf style and have the stunning bright thermally blued tone. The inside of the case has the Swiss hallmarking and serial number. The movement is the Valjoux calibre 23 which is manually wound. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time, with the chronograph functioning well.

Turler are a prestigious family-owned jeweller and watch retailer, which were founded in 1883 in Biel, Switzerland. Since 1907 they have had their famous flagship boutique on Zurich’s Paradeplatz. They are a well-known retailer of high-end timepieces from brands such as Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC and Omega. They are prestigious enough to warrant the co-signing of watches retailed by them, with these watches being collectable. Turler have also offered their own watches, produced by quality Swiss manufacturers, with this being a particularly early example.

We adore early monopusher chronograph watches due to their clean and classic layout. There is a particular charm in the styling of these early pieces with traditional trench style cases and the tactile nature of the onion crown with pusher.

The bright white enamel dial is in flawless condition with no chips, cracks or hairline fractures. It has the detailed 1/5th second track around the exterior, with larger dashes for the single second graduations. For the 5 second graduations it has a thicker dash with the Arabic numerals. The Breguet numerals have the beautiful, stylised font with the standout red 12. They have a radial layout, following around the exterior of the dial. Below 12 O’clock is the Turler signing which is well formed. It has the two inset sub-dials to the centre of the dial, with the constant seconds to the left and the 30-minute counter to the right. Both have the classic railroad track layout, with the constant seconds displaying 60 seconds and the minute counter displaying up to 30 minutes. The hour and minute hands are of the Leaf style, with the thin central second hand having the lollipop counterbalance. The sub-second hand follows the same design with lollipop tip, with the 30-minute counter having the tapered arrow tip.

The case is well proportioned, measuring 34mm x 34mm. It has a width with pusher of 39mm and has a well sized lug to lug length of 40mm. It also benefits from a well sized lug width of 16mm, compared to an average lug width of 12mm during this period.

The case is formed of silver and has the snap-on bezel with the hinged case back and fixed wire lugs. The bezel has the thin notched edge surrounding the glass, before swooping down to meet the flat middle section of the case. Extending from this are the fixed silver wire lugs, which are original with the ‘Swiss’ bear mark. To the right-hand side is the original onion style crown with the pusher set within. Below this is a further Swiss hallmark which is well defined. The case back has the polished finish with light scratching associated with age. It is free of engraving. The hinge is good and the case back seals as it should. Inside it has the Swiss bear hallmark with the 0.935 fineness mark. It is signed with the serial number 65693.

The movement is a Valjoux calibre 23, which is a manually wound chronograph. It has a jewel count of 17, with the column wheel chronograph and single pusher layout. It has been recently serviced and has a daily gain of around 60 seconds per day, with an amplitude of 260 degrees.

It is marked with the ‘Goeser Zurich’ signing. Georg Goeser were another prominent Zurich based Swiss watchmaker and retailer. The presence of this signing is likely due to Turler using a movement stocked by them or having had them manufacture the watch on their behalf.

The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.

Dial:
The dial is original and is in very good antique condition. It is a bright white enamel with clear signing. There are no chips, cracks or hairline fractures. It has some dirt marks to the surface.

Hands:
The hands are all original and are in very good condition with the bright thermally blued tone.

Glass:
The mineral crystal is a more recent replacement which has some light marking associated with age.

Crown and pusher:
The crown is original and is in good condition with light tarnishing. The pusher is original and is in good condition, functioning well.

Case:
The case is silver and is in very good antique condition. It has only light scratching and tarnishing. The lugs are straight and well formed with the original hallmarking visible.

Caseback:
The hinged case back is in good condition. It is free of engraving and has light surface scratching. It seals tightly with a good hinge.

Strap:
It comes on a good quality Darlena genuine leather strap which is glued in place.

Movement:
Inside is the Valjoux calibre 23 which is a manual wind chronograph with 17 jewels. It displays the hours, minutes, small seconds, 30-minute counter and central 60 second hand. It is a quality column wheel chronograph with the single pusher layout.

The watch has been recently serviced and has a daily variation of +60 seconds per day, with a strong amplitude of 260 degrees. The chronograph functions well.
